1. Admission to Secondary Education
Regular High School
Those who have completed the sixth grade are eligible for admission to First Year of high school. The applicant shall present the following: elementary report card, elementary diploma, certificate of good moral character and High School Readiness Test (HSRT) qualifying certificate duly signed by the school principal.
Distance Learning (Open High School System)
All citizens shall enjoy equal access to Open High School System (OHSS). Screening and admission of learners shall be conducted by the teachers who shall be assigned by the principal. the applicant shall undergo two kinds of assessments: The Independent Learner Readiness Test (ILRT) shall be given to test the student's stock of knowledge on content and the Informal Reading Inventory (IRI) Test which shall measure learner's capacity to do independent learning. The ILRT shall serve a diagnostic test.
When qualified, the learner and his/her parents or guardian shall sign a learning contract or learning agreement. The learning agreement contains the following: what the school expects from the learner, what the school expects from the parents/guardians/patrons and list of target learning modules and target dates by which it is planned to be finished and submitted. Interview shall also be conducted with the parents/guardians or patrons to give the school a complete profiles on the learner's socio-economic, health and psycho-social background. Any of the following can be presented during the enrollment period: elementary report card, elementary diploma and PEPT qualifying certificate.
2. Number of years to finish elementary and secondary education
The Philippine educational system should have elementary level of at least six (6) years and a secondary or high school level of at least four (4) years. A total basic education (elementary and secondary) of at least ten (10) years.
3. Issuance of diploma
The Department of Education through the regional office shall issue a diploma which shall be duly signed by the Schools Division Superintendent and the school principal.
4. Qualification to enroll technical and vocational courses
Those who completed four year secondary education are qualified for a technical and vocational courses. The following documents are required: secondary diploma, Form 138 (Student's Report Card) and Form 137 (Secondary Student Permanent Record).
